Without a radio operator’s certificate, you cannot become a helmsman. In one day in Hlohovec we prepare you for the exam, which you then take at the authority.
No certificate, no place at the helm.
You need a radio operator’s certificate to operate the radio on board. It is also a requirement for the rank of helmsman, and so for the boatmaster exam as well.
It is issued after a successful exam by the Slovak telecommunications authority (Úrad pre reguláciu elektronických komunikácií a poštových služieb). Students of the training course take it as a compulsory part of their studies.

Preparation in the classroom
- 09:00 – 15:00 · lessons at TMLG Academy Hlohovec
- You get all the materials you need to prepare for the exam.

One week before the exam
Application to the authority
- Application for a certificate of special professional competence.
- Photo, 3 × 3.5 cm.
- Proof of payment of the administrative fee of €30.

Exam at the authority
- The exam is held by the authority at its own office, not by TMLG Academy.
- Bring an ID document and something to write with.
- If you pass, you receive the exam record and the certificate.

We run the course, the authority runs the exam. So you need two applications: one to us for the course and one to the authority for the exam.

Choose a date
The course takes place in Hlohovec. Once you apply, the date is binding.

Apply for the course
Using the form below or by phone. Pay for the course no later than the day it starts.

Complete the course
One day, 9:00 – 15:00. You get the materials on site.

Send your application to the authority
At least one week before the exam: the application, a photo and proof that you paid the fee.

Pass the exam
At the authority. If you pass, you receive the certificate.

Radiotelephony course: frequently asked questions
Why do I need a radio operator’s certificate?
It allows you to operate the radio on inland vessels. Since the change in legislation, it is also a requirement for the rank of helmsman, and so for the boatmaster exam later on.
Which certificate will I get?
The restricted radio operator’s certificate for inland waterways. On the authority’s application form it is called a type H certificate.
Is the exam held at your academy?
No. The exam is held by the Slovak telecommunications authority (formerly Telekomunikačný úrad) at its own office. With us, you prepare for it in one day.
What should I bring to the exam?
An ID document and something to write with.
I am a student of the training course. Does this apply to me?
Yes. The radiotelephony course is compulsory for students of the training course. You can take it at any time during your studies.
